Materials Needed for Rust Stain Removal from Zara Fabric

  • Dish soap or laundry detergent
  • Vinegar
  • Borax
  • Toothbrush
  • Stain remover
  • Wet rag
  • Dry towel

Step-By-Step Instructions to Remove Rust Stains

  1. First, examine the fabric and determine extent of the rust stains. If the stains seem light and small, proceed to the next step. If the stains are heavy and widespread, pre-treat them with a commercial stain remover according to product instructions.
  2. Mix 1 teaspoon of dish soap or laundry detergent with 1 cup of warm water in a bowl.
  3. Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture, and wet stained area with it.
  4. Allow solution to sit on the fabric for 10 minutes.
  5. Wring out the cloth or sponge, and use it to gently scrub the stained area in circular motions.
  6. Continue scrubbing until the rust stain has been removed.
  7. If necessary, mix a solution of 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 1 cup of warm water. Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture and wet the stained area with it. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes before scrubbing with a toothbrush.
  8. If the rust stain still remains, mix a solution of 2 tablespoons of Borax with 1 cup of warm water and apply to the stained area. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes before scrubbing it off with a toothbrush.
  9. Once the area has been scrubbed, rinse it off with cold water, using a wet cloth or sponge.
  10. Finally, dab the area dry with a clean, dry towel.

Tips to Keep in Mind During Rust Stain Removal

  • Always test the stain removal solution on an inconspicuous area of fabric first to make sure it won't cause any discoloration.
  • Avoid using hot water when cleaning rust stains as this could set the stain.
  • If using Borax, be sure to use no more than 2 tablespoons per cup of water.
