What You Will Need

  • White vinegar
  • Sea salt
  • Scrub brush
  • 2 sponges
  • Dish soap
  • Cold water

Instructions

  1. Be sure that the rust stain is fresh. If it has been on the item for a long time, you may want to have it professionally cleaned.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of sea salt. Stir the mixture until the salt is dissolved.
  3. Dampen a scrub brush in vinegar and salt solution and gently scrub the stained area. Do not scrub too hard or you risk damaging the wool item.
  4. Rinse the scrub brush in cold water, and use one of sponges to clean off the residue. Make sure you rinse sponge regularly and change the water as needed.
  5. Now, use the other sponge and some dish soap to wash area. Work the soap in with light circular motions to ensure the rust stain is gone.
  6. Rinse the area with cold water and let the item air dry. Inspect the area to make sure the rust stain is completely gone.
