How to Remove Rust Stains from Traditional Clothing with Natural Ingredients

The first option for removing rust stains from traditional clothing is to try natural ingredients. Depending on the type of fabric, vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, or a paste of salt and hydrogen peroxide might be effective. Here's what to do:

  1. If the stain is fresh, blot it gently with a damp cloth. Do not rub it, as this might spread the stain further.
  2. Mix a paste of equal parts vinegar and baking soda (or lemon juice).
  3. Apply the paste to the stained area and let it sit for an hour.
  4. Rinse the area with warm water and let it air dry.

How to Remove Rust Stains from Traditional Clothing with Commercial Products

If store bought products are more your style, then there are several options available. Rust removers, citric acid, distilled white vinegar, and laundry detergent are all excellent choices. Here's how to use them to clean rust stains on traditional clothing:

  1. If the stain is fresh, blot it gently with a damp cloth. Do not rub it, as this might spread the stain further.
  2. Soak the garment in a mixture of half cup of either rust remover or citric acid, and two gallons of hot water.
  3. Let the garment soak overnight.
  4. Rinse the garment with warm water and launder as usual with a small amount of laundry detergent and distilled white vinegar.
