When rust strikes, quick action is the key to preventing that pesky orange stain or spot from ruining clothes, including your favourite sleep shirt. Rust comes from iron in the air, and when it meets with water, it can leave a rust-like stain. Unfortunately, without the right methods, it’s almost impossible to get rid of. Here’s a few easy tips on how to clean rust off your sleep shirt.
You will need the following materials to clean rust from your sleep shirt:
Test fabric of your shirt for colorfastness by treating an inconspicuous area first with a small quantity of the ingredients mentioned above. If there is no bleeding or discoloration after an hour, you should be good to go ahead with the stain removal process.
Pour 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and mix them together until you obtain a paste-like consistency.
Apply the paste directly onto the rust stain with a toothbrush or soft brush. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes before moving onto the next step.
Sprinkle a generous amount of salt over the paste. Take a lemon and squeeze the juice over the salt. Blot the stain this way until it completely disappears.
Once rust is gone, it’s time to give the sleep shirt a final rinse. Put the garment in the washing machine with regular detergent and warm water, then hang it up to dry. Enjoy wearing your rust-free sleep shirt once again!
