What You'll Need
- Mild detergent
- Oxalic acid solution (or vinegar)
- Baking soda
- Hydrogen peroxide
Directions
- Soak the item in a mild detergent and cold water for 10–15 minutes. This will loosen the rust stain.
- Mix a solution of oxalic acid and warm water. If your local store does not carry this item, you can use a mixture of 1/4 cup vinegar and 1 cup water instead. Soak the garment in the solution for at least one hour.
- Rinse the garment in cold water and dry it thoroughly.
- If remaining stains remain, mix a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and apply to the stain area.
- Allow the paste to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing. Do not rub or scrub the fabric as this could damage the silk.
- Rinse area thoroughly and lay item flat to dry.
Conclusion
Rust stains can be a bummer on delicate silk fabric. But with the right cleaning supplies and the method outlined above, you can easily get rid of them!
