Rust stains on silk chiffon may look like nearly impossible to remove. After all, it’s a delicate fabric that requires special attention and care. But with the right supplies and a few simple steps, you can get those rust stains out of your chiffon fabric in no time.

Step 1: Pre-soak in Cold Water

Begin by soaking the affected area of the fabric in cold water for about 20 minutes. This will help to loosen the stain from the fabric and make it easier to remove. Make sure the water is only cold in order to prevent further damage to delicate silk fabric.

Step 2: Apply Oxalic Acid

Once pre-soaked, prepare an oxalic acid solution using one teaspoon of oxalic acid in a cup of lukewarm water. Use a clean cloth to dab the solution onto the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Once the solution has set into the fabric, rinse with cold water until the stain has faded.

Step 3: Launder as Usual

Once stain is removed, transfer the fabric to washing machine and launder as per usual instructions. Air drying is best since drying in hot temperatures can cause the fabric to shrink. And that’s it – now your silk chiffon is good as new and free of any pesky rust stains.
