If the rust stain is still fresh, grab a paper towel or cloth and wipe as much of it off as you can before you begin treating it. This will help keep the stain from spreading further.
Mix one part white vinegar and one part water in a bowl. Dip a sponge into the solution and gently rub the rust stain with it. You can also pour the solution directly onto the stain.
If the rust stain is particularly stubborn, use a soft brush to scrub at it. This will help to lift stain from the fibers of the polyester fabric. Be sure to work gently, to avoid any damage.
Once you have treated stain, rinse it with cold water. This will help to remove any residual cleaner, and will ensure that there is no residue left behind.
If the rust stain is particularly stubborn, you may need to repeat the above steps a few times before it is fully removed. Additionally, you may want to try treating the stain with a commercial rust remover, available at many retail outlets.
With patience and a few simple techniques, it’s easy to get rid of rust stains on polyester fabrics. Try these steps and you’ll be well on your way to removing stubborn rust stains from your clothes and upholstery.
