What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Ammonia
  • Dish soap
  • Soft scrubbing brush
  • Soft towel

Step 1: Apply White Vinegar

Mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water together in a bowl. Dip a towel into the mixture and place it directly on the rust stain.

Leave the towel on rust stain for 10 to 15 minutes. This will help loosen the rust particles and make them easier to remove.

Step 2: Apply Ammonia

Mix a solution of 1 tablespoon of ammonia and 1 cup of water in a bowl.

Saturate the rust-stained area of the fabric with the solution and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Clean with Detergent

Gently rub a small amount of dish soap or other mild detergent into the stained area with a soft bristled brush.

Carefully scrub the stain out and rinse with cold water. Repeat this process as needed until the rust stain has been completely removed.

Step 4: Rinse the Area

Rinse the area with cold water until all of the soapy residue is removed.

Step 5: Dry the Fabric

Gently pat the fabric dry with a soft towel. Do not rub as this may cause the fabric to become damaged.
