Rust stains can be a challenge, but they’re not impossible to remove. If your pajamas are made of cotton material, there are a couple of options you can try. Before cleaning, always check the care label to make sure the material can be safely treated with solutions listed below.
Salt is a natural cleanser that can work wonders when it comes to removing rust. To use salt as a cleaner, make a paste of equal parts salt and white vinegar. Use paste to gently scrub the rust stain from the fabric. Rinse thoroughly with warm water when done.
If you don’t want to use salt, you can also try an acidic solvent. Citrus-based solvents are ideal for this job, as they’re much gentler on fabrics than harsher chemicals. To use an acidic solvent, mix it with an equal part of water and apply the mixture to the rust stain. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes before scrubbing it gently with a cloth.
After scrubbing away the rust with either salt or a citrus-based solvent, you’ll need to rinse the area and then treat it with detergent. Choose a gentle detergent that won’t damage the fabric. Gently rub the detergent into fabric and let it sit for several minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
Once you’ve finished the cleaning process, you should let pajamas air dry. This will help prevent the rust from returning as quickly as it can if the fabric is exposed to moisture. Hang your pajamas up in a dry place and allow them to air dry completely before storing them or wearing them.
