Outdoor furniture is often exposed to the elements like rain and heat, which unfortunately can lead to the formation of rust stains. These colorful streaks of orange or yellow blemishes may not seem like a big deal at first, but left untreated, rust can eventually cause permanent damage to your furniture. Fortunately, there are some simple steps you can take to get rid of rust stains and keep your furniture looking like new.
Cleaning and removing rust stains isn't difficult—it just requires a bit of elbow grease. Start by scrubbing affected area with a wire brush to loosen the rust. For stubborn spots, use a course-grit sandpaper to rub away any remaining residue. Once all loose particles are removed, vacuum or brush to clean away any dust left behind.
Rust can be neutralised using a simple solution made from vinegar and baking soda. Mix together equal parts white vinegar and baking soda into a paste. Use a soft cloth to spread paste over the area that needs to be cleaned. Allow the paste to sit for around 15 minutes, then wipe it away with a damp cloth and rinse thoroughly. This should help to remove the rust and leave your furniture looking like new.
