Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice in a small bowl. This mixture creates a gentle yet effective cleaner for removing rust stains.
Dab the mixture onto the affected area, gently rubbing it in. Allow it to sit for several minutes before wiping away with a damp cloth.
Using an old toothbrush, scrub area gently with circular motions until the rust stain is gone. Don't scrub too hard, as this may damage fabric.
Rinse the area well with clean water and pat dry with a cloth. Make sure all the baking soda and lemon juice residue is completely removed.
If stain still persists, try using either vinegar or seashell powder to remove it. Soak affected area in undiluted vinegar for 10-15 minutes or make a paste from seashell powder and warm water. Rub the paste into the affected area and rinse off well.
Depending on severity of the rust stain, you may need to repeat the process a few times. Be sure to check the area after each cleaning to make sure all the rust has been removed.
