Before trying any of these methods, you should spot test it on an inconspicuous area of the fabric. This will help ensure that the cleaning solution won’t damage the fabric.
First, wet the stain with cold water so that the rust stain is thoroughly dampened.
Mix a paste of baking soda and water and apply the paste to the stain. Allow the paste to sit for a few minutes and then gently scrub the paste into the fabric with a soft cloth or toothbrush. Rinse off the paste with cold water and inspect the stain.
If the baking soda didn’t work, mix two parts white vinegar with one part water and apply the mixture to stain with a cloth. Allow the mixture to sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse and inspect the stain.
If the white vinegar doesn’t work, apply lemon juice directly to the stain. Let the lemon juice sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse the fabric and inspect the stain.
If the lemon juice doesn’t work, mix a few drops of dish soap with water and apply the solution to the stain. Allow the solution to sit for 10-15 minutes and then rinse the fabric and inspect the stain.
If the dish soap doesn’t work, mix one teaspoon of sodium thiosulfate with two cups of cold water. Apply the mixture to the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse the fabric and inspect the stain.
