Before starting any stain removal process, it’s important to identify what kind of stain you have. In the case of rust, it’s usually fairly easy to spot since it’s a reddish-brown color. It’s also one of those stains that won’t come off with a quick rinse, so it’s important to take a closer look to be sure.
Once you’ve determined that it’s a rust stain, it’s time to start the cleaning process. Make a paste out of baking soda and water and apply it directly to the stain. Let it sit for 15 minutes before wiping it away with a damp cloth.
If the baking soda paste didn’t do the trick, try soaking the spot with a mixture of white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Just be sure to test this mixture on an inconspicuous area first, as it could discolor the fabric of your Lacoste shirt. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
If neither of the above methods worked, try using a commercial rust remover. These products are designed to be gentle on fabrics while still being effective at removing even the toughest rust stains. Be sure to read and follow the instructions on the packaging and always test on a small area first.
Once the stain is gone, you can put it in the washer and launder as usual. Be sure to air dry the shirt afterward to avoid any potential water spots. And that's it! Even the toughest rust stains don't stand a chance against these simple steps.
