Before you begin cleaning, make sure you have the following items at hand:
The first step to removing rust is to create a paste that will help loosen up the rust particles from its grip on the surface. Mix together equal parts of baking soda and vinegar/citrus juice to form a thick paste.
Once the paste is ready, apply it generously over the rust stain. Allow the paste to sit on the surface for 10 to 15 minutes. This will give enough time for paste to work its magic and loosen up the particles of rust.
Next, use the steel wool scrubber to scrub away the rust stain. Make sure you put in some elbow grease and scrub the surface thoroughly. This should help loosen and remove most of rust particles.
After scrubbing, rinse the utensil with warm water. This will help remove any remaining bits of rust and will also clean off the paste that was used to soften the rust particles.
If there are still some stubborn rust particles remaining, mix some dish soap and warm water together and use a soft sponge to scrub away the remaining rust stains.
Once you've removed all rust stains, use a soft cloth to dry the utensil completely. This will prevent any more rust from forming on the surface of the utensil.
