In a bowl or other container, mix one tablespoon of laundry detergent with two cups of warm water. Stir the mixture until the detergent is dissolved and the liquid is bubbly.
Submerge the hair ties in the cleaning solution, ensuring that they are completely covered. Let them soak for about 20 minutes.
Take the hair ties out of the solution and rub them with your fingers, or use a soft-bristled brush, to remove the rust. If the rust doesn't budge after the first attempt, then put the hair ties back in the solution for another 20 minutes before trying again.
Rinse the hair ties thoroughly with cold water and lay them on a dry towel. Gently pat them with another clean towel to absorb any excess water.
Once all the moisture is gone, your hair ties should be rust-free!
