rust

Rust can quickly accumulate on your hair clips if they're made of metal, or when you use them near the sea. But no need to throw them away – with just a few simple steps, you can easily clean off the rust and get them looking brand new.

What You'll Need:

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Salt
  • Toothpaste
  • An old toothbrush
  • A rag

Steps:

  1. Mix one part white vinegar with one part baking soda until you get a thick paste. Don't forget to wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.
  2. Apply the paste to the rusty parts of the clips and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
  3. Rub paste in with an old toothbrush – this helps remove rust without damaging clips.
  4. After 15 minutes, rinse the clips off with warm water until all the paste is gone, then dry them off with a rag.
  5. If the rust stains still won't come off, mix one tablespoon of salt with one tablespoon of toothpaste. Again, let it sit for 15 minutes, then scrub the clips with the old toothbrush. Rinse off the paste with warm water and a rag afterward.
  6. If necessary, repeat the process until all rust has been completely removed.

Preventative Tips:

  • Whenever possible, store your hair clips away from salt (e.g., at the beach), in a cool, dry place.
  • Always rinse your hair clips off after swimming in ocean or pool to remove any salt or chlorine.
  • Wipe down hair clips with a dry cloth after each use to remove any moisture buildup.
