One of the most common and effective methods of removing rust stains is using distilled white vinegar. To use this method, first wet the stain with cool water and then pour some white vinegar directly onto the fabric. Allow the vinegar to sit for 10 minutes before blotting it away with a clean cloth or paper towel. Repeat these steps as many times as necessary until the desired results are achieved.
Aspirin can also be used to remove rust stains. Dissolve 3-4 aspirin tablets in a tablespoon of warm water and apply the solution to the stain. Allow the solution to sit for 10 minutes before blotting away the excess with a damp cloth. Repeat this step as needed until stain is gone.
This method is useful if rust stains are small and less visible. Squeeze out the juice from half a lemon and apply it to the rust stain. Allow the lemon juice to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing the area with cold water. Repeat these steps until the rust stains are completely removed.
If the previous methods are not enough to remove the rust stains, then baking soda can be used. Make a paste by mixing equal parts of baking soda with water and gently rub the paste into the stain. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes before washing the fabric as usual. Repeat as needed until stain is gone.
The best way to prevent rust stains from occurring in the future is to always keep fabric away from any metal items. This includes zippers, buttons, studs, and other metallic objects that may come into contact with the fabric. Make sure to check garment before laundering and remove any metal items before washing.
