What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Old toothbrush
  • Clean white cloth

Step 1: Dab the Stain with White Vinegar

First, dab the rust stain with white vinegar using a clean white cloth. The white vinegar helps to break up the rust, making it easier to remove. Allow the vinegar to sit for about 10 minutes.

Step 2: Rub Baking Soda into the Stain

Once the vinegar has had time to work its magic, use an old toothbrush to rub baking soda into rust stain. Regular dentrifices can also be used. The baking soda will act like a gentle abrasive to help lift the rust off the fabric.

Step 3: Rinse and Wash

Next, rinse the area with cold water and then launder according to the instructions on the care label. If the rust stain isn't completely gone, repeat steps 1-3 until the stain is removed.
