What You Need

  • White vinegar
  • 2 tbsp of baking soda
  • Spray bottle
  • Soft sponge or cloth
  • Laundry detergent
  • Towel

Step 1: Pre-treat the Stain

Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spritz the mixture on the affected area. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2: Sprinkle Baking Soda

After 10-15 minutes, take 2 tablespoons of baking soda and sprinkle it over the stained area. Let baking soda sit for another 10-15 minutes.

Step 3: Scrub Away Stain

Using a soft sponge or cloth, start scrubbing stained area gently while making sure to focus on the stain itself. The baking soda and vinegar mixture should help loosen up the rust stain. Continue scrubbing until the stain is gone.

Step 4: Rinse Fabric

Once the rust stain has been removed, use cool water to rinse out the vinegar, baking soda, and remaining stain residue. Make sure to go over the entire area to ensure all of the residue has been washed away.

Step 5: Wash the Fabric

Wash the fabric as normal in cold water with a mild laundry detergent. Make sure to use a gentle cycle.

Step 6: Dry the Fabric

When the washing cycle is complete, remove the fabric from machine and lay it flat on a towel. Carefully pat the fabric until most of the moisture is gone. Do not wring out the fabric.

Step 7: Iron the Fabric

Once the fabric has dried, use an iron set to the lowest setting to heat the fabric and help set the stain-removing solution.
