This classic combination is great for tackling rust stains on all sorts of fabrics. Start by making a paste out of vinegar and baking soda. Apply it to the stained area and let it sit for an hour. Once it’s been sitting, rinse it off and use a brush to scrub away any remaining rust.
Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent, so it’s perfect for getting rid of tricky rust stains. Make a mixture of equal parts lemon juice and water and dab the rust-stained area with it. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes before rinsing it off and drying.
Vinegar is a staple when it comes to cleaning, and for good reason! For rust stains on dobby fabric, mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water and a teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinse and dry.
If the above methods aren’t doing trick, you can always pick up a commercial rust remover specifically designed for fabrics. Follow the directions on the packaging and use protective gloves if advised. Once you’ve applied the rust remover, rinse it off and dry the fabric.
The best way to deal with rust stains, of course, is to avoid them in the first place! To prevent rust stains, keep fabrics away from metal objects and store them properly when not in use. You should also clean any tools or metal objects that may come into contact with dobby fabric regularly.
