Baking Soda and Lemon Juice Solution

Mix together equal parts baking soda and lemon juice until you get a paste-like consistency. Apply the mixture to rust stain and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Rinse the area with lukewarm water and repeat the process as needed until the stain is gone.

White Vinegar Solution

Soak a cloth with white vinegar and apply it to the rust stain. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes before rinsing with water. Repeat the process as necessary until the stain disappears.

Salt Solution

Mix together a teaspoon of salt with a few tablespoons of white vinegar - enough to make a paste. Rub the paste onto the rust stain and leave it on the fabric for 30 minutes before washing as usual. You may need to repeat this process if the stain is still visible.

Laundry Detergent Solution

Apply a liquid laundry detergent directly to the rust stain and scrub the area with a soft brush. Allow the detergent to sit for at least 30 minutes before laundering as usual. Be sure to read your garment’s care labels before washing.

Other Tips

  • Be sure to spot test any cleaner you use on a hidden area of your garment first.
  • Avoid using chlorine bleach or other harsh cleaners as they can damage your fabric.
  • It may take multiple treatments to remove rust stains from cotton twill.
