Basically, any kind of metallic object or water can cause rust spots on your cotton.
When dealing with rust stains on your cotton piqué fabrics, you need to act quickly to remove them before they set in. The best way to remove rust stains is to mix three parts hydrogen peroxide with one part white vinegar or lemon juice. Apply the solution onto stain, let it sit for around 10 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water.
You can also use a mild laundry detergent to help lift the stain. Mix 1 teaspoon of detergent with 8 ounces of warm water and sponge the solution onto the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse it off with cold water.
If you’re dealing with a stubborn stain, you can add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to 4 ounces of warm water. Dip a toothbrush into the mixture and scrub the stain gently. Once you’ve done this, wash the fabric as normal in your washing machine.
