Step 1: Gather the Supplies

You’ll need a few supplies to get started. Gather white vinegar, a few drops of liquid dish detergent, a soft cloth, a toothbrush, and a few clean towels.

Step 2: Make a Cleaning Solution

Combine one part white vinegar with two parts water in a bowl. Then add two or three drops of liquid dish detergent to the mixture and stir gently until it is combined.

Step 3: Soak the Fabric

Saturate rust-stained area of the fabric with cleaning solution. Let it soak for about 15 minutes, or until you can see the stain starting to fade.

Step 4: Scrub Away the Stain

Use the toothbrush to gently scrub the stain as it continues to soak. Focus your attention on the stained areas, and be careful not to scrub too hard on fibers of fabric. Then rinse the fabric with cold water, making sure all cleaner is washed away.

Step 5: Wash and Dry

Place the fabric in a washing machine, set to the delicate cycle. Add a small amount of laundry detergent and wash in cold water. When cycle is complete, hang the fabric up to dry.

Step 6: Check for Residue

Once the fabric is dry, check it for any remaining traces of rust stain. If any still remain, repeat steps two through five until you’re satisfied with the results.
