Step 1: Prepare a Vinegar Solution

Before you start cleaning the rust stain, it is important that you prepare a vinegar solution. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water, and apply directly onto the stained area. Allow the solution to sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Step 2: Scrub Away the Stain

Once the vinegar has been applied, take a soft bristled brush and gently scrub the stained area. Make sure to be gentle, since cotton lawn is a delicate fabric. If necessary, reapply more vinegar solution, wait a few minutes, and then continue scrubbing.

Step 3: Rinse with Cold Water

Once you have finished scrubbing stained area, rinse the fabric with cold water. This will help to remove any traces of vinegar and other cleaning agents.

Step 4: Apply Baking Soda Solution

To help remove stubborn rust stains, mix 1 tablespoon baking soda with 2 tablespoons water. Gently rub the mixture into stained area and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with cold water.

Step 5: Wash Normal

After you have finished cleaning the rust stain, wash the fabric on a normal setting. Air dry and check for any remaining stains. If necessary, repeat the steps above until all of the rust is gone.
