What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Soft cloth
  • Dish soap

Step 1: Pre-treat with Vinegar

Before getting started, make sure your cotton chambray is damp by running it under cold water. Then, sprinkle some white vinegar on the rust stain and let it sit for about 30 minutes. The acid in the vinegar will help break down the rust.

Step 2: Scrub with Baking Soda

After the vinegar has had a chance to work, sprinkle some baking soda over the stain and gently scrub with a soft cloth. This combination will create an abrasive paste that can break up the rust and loosen it from the fabric without damaging the material.

Step 3: Wash with Dish Soap

After scrubbing, rinse the fabric thoroughly and then launder as usual using a mild dish soap. If the stain doesn't seem to be completely gone, repeat the previous steps until you are satisfied with the results.
