To begin, create a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. Make sure the liquid is warm but not hot. Work solution into the fabric of the stained area using a soft bristled brush or cloth. Let this sit for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
In cases of stubborn rust stains, lemon juice can be used to help break down the oxidation. To do this, simply cut a lemon in half, squeezing out as much of the juice as possible, right onto stain. Let the lemon juices sit for about 15 minutes before scrubbing the spot with a sponge as needed. Rinse the area with cold water afterwards.
Baking soda is another great option for treating rust stains. Simply mix a tablespoon of baking soda with two tablespoons of warm water. Apply the paste on the affected area and let it work its magic for around 30 minutes. Use an old toothbrush or sponge to gently scrub the stained area. Rinse off with cold water.
