Blot the area around the rust stain to absorb as much of liquid as possible. Use a clean cloth or paper towel. Don't rub, which could cause the rust stain to spread.
Apply a commercial rust remover to stain. Follow the directions on the product label for best results. Allow the remover to sit for about five minutes before rinsing it away.
Fill your sink or a large container with lukewarm water. Gently swish the garment in the water to rinse away the rust remover. Let the garment air-dry. Finally, toss it in washing machine on its own using the gentlest cycle. Hang dry afterwards.
