Rust is an extremely stubborn stain that can be tricky to remove. It's best to tackle spots as soon as you spot them. The longer rust stains stay on fabric, harder they are to get rid of.
Things You'll Need
- White vinegar
- Gentle detergent
- Soft cloth
Instructions
- Mix one part white vinegar with one part water in a bowl.
- Dab the soft cloth into the vinegar solution.
- Gently rub the cloth over the rust stain in a circular motion.
- If the stain doesn't come out, apply more vinegar onto the cloth and continue rubbing for 1-2 minutes.
- Rinse off the area with cold water.
- If there is still some staining remaining, try using a gentle laundry detergent on the affected area.
- Let it soak for about 10 minutes.
- Rinse the cardigan in cold water and then dry it.
Tips
- For water-safe fabrics, you can soak them in the vinegar solution for 30 minutes before washing.
- Always test a small area of the garment first to make sure fabric won't be damaged by either the vinegar or detergent.
- For delicate items, use a sponge instead of a cloth and blot the stain instead of rubbing it in circles.
