The Basics of Removing Rust

Removing rust is all about restoring the material to its original form by removing the metal oxide that caused the stain in the first place. The key to removing rust from clothing is choosing right cleaning agent and technique. Here are some of the most common methods for removing rust stains:

Method 1: Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is a natural acid and is one of the best ways of removing rust stains from clothing. For best results, mix the lemon juice with a small amount of baking soda and then rub the mixture onto stain with an old toothbrush. Leave for 10 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. Repeat the process if necessary.

Method 2: Cream of Tartar

Cream of tartar is a powdery substance that is often used in baking and can also be used to remove rust from clothing. To use cream of tartar for rust stains, mix one part cream of tartar with two parts hydrogen peroxide and then rub the mixture into stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. Repeat process as needed until stain is gone.

Method 3: Vinegar

Vinegar is another natural acid that can be used to remove rust from clothing. Simply soak the stained item in a solution of one part vinegar and two parts water for 30 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. If the stain persists, repeat the process until it is gone.

Cleaning a Bodycon Dress

Bodycon dresses are often made of delicate fabrics like silk or polyester, so it's important to be careful when using any of the methods mentioned above. Before you begin, test the cleaning product on a small, hidden area of fabric to make sure it won’t damage the material. Then, use method of your choice to remove rust stain.

Once the stain is gone, wash the garment according to the manufacturer's instructions and hang to dry. And voila! Your bodycon dress is good as new.
