Rust stains on any material, let alone delicate acrylic, can be a real headache. But the good news is that you can remove rust from acrylic with just a few household materials and some elbow grease.

What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Paper towels
  • Baking soda
  • Soft cloths
  • A toothbrush

Step One: Soak the Stained Area

The first step is to soak stained area with white vinegar for 15-20 minutes. You can dilute the vinegar if the stain is particularly stubborn. Once stain has been saturated, use paper towels to dab at area and remove the rust.

Step Two: Scrub Away with Baking Soda

Once the rust stain has been soaked and dabbed, it is time to scrub away any remaining rust. Take your baking soda and mix with a small amount of water to create a paste. Apply this paste to the rust stained area and let it sit for another 15-20 minutes. Then, take your toothbrush and gently scrub the area until the remaining rust is gone.

Step Three: Rinse and Dry

After all the rust has been removed, take a soft cloth or paper towel and rinse the area with warm water. Once the area is clean and dry, you can enjoy your acrylic back to its original, rust-free glory.
