Step One: Spot Cleaning
First, use a damp cloth or paper towel to carefully dab the area that is stained with rouge. Don’t scrub or rub area, as this could spread the stain further. Instead, gently pat the area to lift the stain. Once it’s been cleaned, lay a damp, white cloth over the stain and press with a warm iron to draw out any remaining residue.
Step Two: Treat With a Cleaner
Now, treat the stain with a specific cleaner. An enzyme-based cleaner should work great for this. If your tuxedo is dry clean only, be sure to follow instructions on the packet. If it’s machine washable, you can apply the cleaner directly to the stain and let it sit for about half an hour before washing. Always use cool water for both dry cleaning and machine washing.
Step Three: Try Bleach
If the stain still remains after applying a cleaner, use a non-chlorine bleach on the affected area. Be sure to test a small, hidden area first to make sure the dye from the tuxedo won’t run. Then, apply the bleach directly to the rouge stain and let it sit for a few minutes before using a cloth to blot it away.
Step Four: Allow Time to Dry
Once the rouge stain has been removed, hang tuxedo up to allow it to air dry completely. Never place tuxedo in a tumble dryer or other appliance, as this could damage the fabric. Once it’s completely dry, your tuxedo should be stain-free and ready to wear!
