Step One: Gently Blot the Stain

The first step is to take a dry cloth or paper towel and gently press on the stain to remove as much of it as possible. Do not rub the stain, or you may just make it worse. Blotting will help preserve the material and won't cause unnecessary damage.

Step Two: Add Cold Water

Next, use cold water to rinse the area. This will help dilute stain and prevent it from setting too deeply into the material. Make sure to use lukewarm water; hot water may set in the stain more quickly.

Step Three: Apply Detergent and Vinegar

Mix together a solution of non-bleaching detergent and white vinegar – 1 teaspoon of detergent per cup of vinegar – and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for several minutes before blotting gently with a clean cloth. Don't rub or scrub, as this could further spread stain.

Step Four: Rinse with Cold Water

Once you've blotted and removed as much as detergent and vinegar solution as possible, rinse the area with cold water. This will help remove solution off of the material and reduce the risk of the stain setting in.

Step Five: Hang Out in the Sun

After you've finished all the steps above, hang the item or clothing out in direct sunlight. After an hour or two, check it to make sure the stain has faded. If not, repeat the steps again until the stain is gone.

By carefully following these steps, your Tussah item should be looking as good as new in no time.
