Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

The first step is to pre-treat the stain before washing the garment. Use a commercial pre-treatment spray or mix up a solution of one teaspoon of liquid detergent and one cup of warm water. Soak a soft cloth or sponge in the solution and place it directly onto the stained area. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes before continuing with the next step.

What if the Stain is Still There?

If stain is still visible after pre-treating it, try soaking the garment in a mixture of two tablespoons of white vinegar and one quart of warm water for 30 minutes. This should help to lighten the stain.

Step 2: Washing Garment

Once the pre-treatment process is complete, you can proceed to wash garment with a mild laundry detergent and warm water. If fabric is delicate, use a gentle cycle. For heavier soiling, use a heavy-duty cycle. Let the cycle run through its entire cycle, then check to make sure rouge stain is gone.

Step 3: Drying the Garment

If stain is gone, you can dry the garment in a clothes dryer with a low heat setting or air-dry it flat on a drying rack. Do not put the garment in the dryer if the stain is still visible. The heat may set the stain and make it impossible to remove.
