If you have a dress, shirt or other item made of silk taffeta, chances are you love it for its softness, sophistication and luster. However, as beautiful as these garments may be, they'll need a good cleaning once in a while to maintain their original radiance. Unfortunately, most of us are more familiar with how to laundry a cotton, not a silk taffeta.

Steps to Remove Rouge Stains from Silk Taffeta Fabric

  1. Check the label on the garment first. Keep in mind that some silk taffeta garments may require special care like dry clean only.
  2. If the item is hand washable, use cold water and a mild detergent. You should always spot test any liquid detergent on a hidden area of the garment.
  3. Remove the rouge stain with warm water and a gentle detergent. The warm water will help dilute the stain.
  4. You can also use a drop of white vinegar to help loosen up the stain.
  5. When washing, never rub, just gently blot the fabric to avoid damaging the delicate fabric.
  6. After removing the stain, rinse the fabric with cold water.
  7. If necessary, you can repeat the previous steps until the stain is completely gone.
  8. Once the stain is removed, hang garment to air dry or lay it flat on a clean towel and pat it dry.

Silk taffeta fabric is much more delicate than other materials, so it's important to take extra care during the washing process. If you're not comfortable with the steps mentioned above, it's best to take your garment to a professional cleaner for optimal results.
