Understanding Rouge Stains

Rouge stains are grease-based, so they can be some of the most difficult types of stains to get out of clothing. The best way to remove a rouge stain is to prevent it in the first place by avoiding contact with any oily products. If a rouge stain does happen to find its way onto your seersucker fabric, one of the most important things to remember is not to rub it.

What You Will Need

  • Mild detergent
  • Cold water
  • A sponge
  • White vinegar
  • Oxygen bleach

Instructions

  1. Mix two tablespoons of mild detergent with a quart of cold water in a bowl.
  2. Dampen a clean sponge and wring out any excess water.
  3. Dip the sponge into the detergent solution and lightly blot the stained area of the fabric.
  4. If necessary, gently agitate the fabric to help detergent absorb into the fabric.
  5. Rinse the stained area with cold water and repeat steps 2-4 until the stain is gone.
  6. If the stain persists, mix a solution of one tablespoon of white vinegar, one teaspoon of oxygen bleach, and a quart of cold water.
  7. Dampen a clean sponge and wring out any excess water.
  8. Dip the sponge into vinegar solution and lightly blot the stained area of the fabric.
  9. Let the solution sit on the fabric for 30 minutes.
  10. Rinse the stained area with cold water and repeat steps 7-9 until the stain is gone.

Tips

  • Always test any cleaning solution on a small, hidden area of the garment before using.
  • Depending on the type of fabric, hot water may set the stain and make it more difficult to remove.
  • If the stain persists after multiple attempts, consider taking the garment to a professional cleaner.
