No matter how careful you are, spills and stains happen on your scrubs. One of the most difficult stains to remove is a rouge stain. Rouge is an oil-based makeup and can be difficult to clean, but there are some steps you can take to significantly reduce the appearance of the rouge. Here are a few tips and tricks for effectively removing a rouge stain from your scrub tops.

Use a Grease-Fighting Detergent

The first and most important step in cleaning a rouge stain from your scrubs is to use a detergent that is specifically designed to combat grease and oils. A standard laundry detergent may not be sufficient to break down rouge so choosing one that is specifically designed for oils and grease can increase chances of completely removing the stain.

Check the Care Label on Your Scrubs

If your scrub tops have a care label, check it before beginning any stain removal process. The care label can provide specific instructions on how to wash the garments and what types of detergents to use. It is important to follow these instructions as closely as possible to ensure that you don’t cause any damage to the fabric.

Apply a Pre-Treat Product

Once you have chosen correct detergent for your situation, apply a pre-treat product to stain. Pre-treat products are designed to break down tough stains such as grease and oil, including rouge. Make sure to follow the directions provided on the product carefully and note the amount of time that should be allowed for product to work before the garment is washed.

Use Hot Water

Hot water will help loosen the stain and make it easier to remove. Use hottest water recommended by the care label on your scrubs when washing them and add an extra half cup of detergent. This helps to provide an extra boost in cleaning power.

Run Through Two Cycles

Once the pre-treat product has had a chance to work, run the garment through two complete washing cycles. This will help to ensure that all of the stain-fighting agents have been washed away and that the stain is removed.

Line Dry or Tumble Dry Low

To help prevent fading, it is best to line dry the garment or tumble dry using lowest heat setting. If stain is still visible after washing, repeat the process until it is gone.
