The first step in removing a rouge stain is to pre-treat the area with a stain remover. Use a product that is designed specifically for use on fabric, such as an all-fabric stain remover or a pre-wash stain remover. These products come in aerosol cans or spray bottles and are generally applied directly to the stained area. Work the product into the fabric, and then allow it to sit for several minutes before washing the garment.
After pre-treating stain, it's time to wash the garment. Choose a cycle on your washing machine that uses cold water, as hot water can set the stain. Add a teaspoon of color-safe detergent and run your washer on specified settings. If you're washing by hand, use a mild detergent and cool water.
If the stain isn't completely removed after the initial wash, create an oxi-clean solution. Combine one cup of warm water with two tablespoons of powdered oxygen bleach and two tablespoons of liquid detergent. Stir the mixture until it is dissolved, and then use a clean cloth to apply solution directly to the stained area. Allow the solution to sit for 15 minutes, and then re-wash the garment on cold.
