Rouge is a cosmetic pigment that is used to color the cheeks and lips. Although it may look elegant when applied, it can be a nightmare to remove from clothing or upholstery. When removed improperly, it can cause long-lasting damage to fabrics like Habutai.

Before attempting to clean your Habutai fabric, there are a few things you should do first:

  • Identify the type of stain – Is the stain fresh or has it already set in? If the stain is fresh, you can proceed to the cleaning instructions below. If it has already set into fabric, proceed with caution as some methods of removing set-in stains may damage the fabric.
  • Check the care instructions – Habutai fabric is generally not very durable and may be delicate, so check the care instructions on the label before you begin cleaning. This will tell you the recommended cleaning method for your particular fabric.

Removing a Fresh Rouge Stain

To clean a fresh rouge stain on Habutai fabric, follow these steps:

  • Blot the stain gently with a cloth – Blot the area with a clean, damp cloth to absorb as much of the rouge as possible. You may need to use a mild soap if the rouge is particularly stubborn.
  • Apply a fabric stain remover – Use a store-bought fabric-stain remover according to the directions on the package. Do not scrub the fabric too vigorously with the remover as this could damage Habutai fabric.
  • Rinse the area with warm water – Rinse the area with warm water to remove any remaining residue from fabric-stain remover.
  • Allow the fabric to air dry – Hang the fabric in a well-ventilated area and allow it to air dry completely.

Removing a Set-In Rouge Stain

If the rouge stain has already set into the fabric, take extra care not to damage the Habutai. Follow these steps to remove a set-in rouge stain:

  • Mix a paste of baking soda and water – Combine equal parts baking soda and water to create a paste. Apply the paste directly to the stain and allow it to sit for 30 minutes.
  • Scrub the area gently – Using a soft-bristled brush, gently scrub the stained area. Take care not to scrub too hard as this could damage Habutai fabric.
  • Rinse the area with warm water – Rinse the area with warm water to remove any remaining residue from the paste.
  • Allow fabric to air dry – Hang the fabric in a well-ventilated area and allow it to air dry completely.

Final Thoughts

When trying to remove rouge stains from Habutai fabric, it’s important to take extra care not to damage the delicate fabric. If the stain is fresh, follow steps above to clean it without causing damage to the fabric. For set-in stains, use baking soda and a gentle scrubbing motion to remove the stain. Allow the fabric to air dry completely before putting it back into use.
