Before you begin, make sure that your workspace is properly set up. This includes setting up protective materials on the surface you will be working on, such as newspapers, towels, and/or a drop cloth. Additionally, make sure that you have all of the necessary cleaning supplies at the ready.
To ensure that your cleaning product won't damage the furniture, conduct a patch test before using the product on the stain. Apply a small amount of the cleaning solution to an inconspicuous area of furniture, such as the underside of it, and wait for a few minutes to see if any discoloration or damage occurs.
When you are sure that the cleaning solution won’t damage the furniture, apply a small amount of it directly to the stain, then use a soft scrub brush to work solution into fabric. Keep solution from seeping further into the fabric by blotting the area with a damp cloth, and be sure not to scrub too hard.
After you have finished cleaning the stain, it is important to neutralize the cleaning solution by rinsing the area with clean water. For tougher stains, you may need to repeat the process a few times until the stain has been completely removed. Once the area is dry, you can check to see if the stain was successfully removed.
