What You'll Need

  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Baking soda
  • Stain remover
  • Toothbrush
  • Clean cloth

Load Up Washing Machine

Start by loading your denim into the washing machine. Set the temperature to warm and add a mild liquid detergent. Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to the load & turn on machine. Allow it to run through the entire cycle, but do not dry.

Pretreat The Stain

Mix equal parts of dish soap and white vinegar. Gently dab the stain with the mixture. You can also use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda applied to the stain, then let sit for 30 minutes before rinsing. Finally, apply a commercial stain remover to the affected area and allow it to sit for 1-2 hours.

Scrub with a Toothbrush

Using an old toothbrush, scrub stained area gently to help lift out the stain. Rinse the affected area with cool water so that the fabric doesn’t shrink or distort.

Re-wash and Dry

Finally, re-wash denim in warm water using same detergent as before. Once finished, check the stain to see if it has been lifted out. If not, repeat the steps until satisfied with the results. Finally, tumble dry the denim item on low heat.
