Cutting boards can quickly become stained when preparing food, especially if you cut items that contain red food coloring or sauces. However, removing rouge stains from your cutting board doesn’t have to be a chore. Here are some tips for making light work of red-colored stains.

Cleaning Fresh Rouge Stains from a Wooden Cutting Board
- Take a lemon or lime and cut it in half with a knife.
- Sprinkle salt onto the exposed end of cut fruit.
- Rub the cut fruit over the stained area of your cutting board in a circular motion.
- Once the stain has been lightened, rinse the board with warm water and allow it to dry.
Removing Rouge Stains from a Polymer Cutting Board
- Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with two tablespoons of baking soda.
- Using a damp rag or brush, apply the solution to the stained area of your cutting board.
- Allow the mixture to sit for several minutes before blotting it up with a clean, damp cloth.
- Rinse the board with warm water and wipe it dry.
Preventing Rouge Stains
- After chopping food colored with red sauces, make sure to wash board as soon as possible.
- Never use bleach on your cutting board, as this can cause discoloration and damage.
