Cotton lawn is a lightweight fabric that is perfect for garments, linens, and curtains. Unfortunately, rouge stains often appear on these fabrics and can be difficult to remove. The good news is that there are a few simple steps you can take to make sure your cotton lawn is spotless again.

Pre-Treat the Stain

The first step to getting rid of hard rouge stains is to pre-treat them. Start by gently blotting the stain with a damp cloth to remove as much of the rouge as possible. Then, use a stain remover specifically designed for use on cotton lawn or an enzyme-based detergent. Apply a small amount of cleaner directly to the stain, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water.

Wash in Hot Water

Once the stain has been pre-treated, it's time to move onto the next step: washing. Again, use an enzyme-based detergent for best results. Put the stained linen in the washing machine and set the cycle to hot water. This will help break down the proteins in the rouge and make it easier to remove stain. It's important to note that you should never use bleach or fabric softener when washing cotton lawn.

Dry on Low Heat

Once the cotton lawn has been washed, you can put it in the dryer on a low setting. This will help set the stain, which will make it easier to remove. Alternatively, you can lay the item flat to dry. Make sure to check the linen once it's dry to make sure the stain is gone. If not, repeat the pre-treatment and washing process.
