Rouge stains are some of the most difficult fabrics to remove, but thankfully with a few simple steps, you can restore your dress and get yourself back on the party circuit. Here’s how to remove rouge stains from your cocktail dress:

  • First, determine the type of material your dress is made from – is it silk, satin, cotton or something else? This can have a bearing on the type of cleaning solutions you will be able to use.
  • Mix one part cold water with one part dishwashing liquid and moisten the area with the solution.
  • Rub the affected area with a soft cloth or a sponge to work the solution into the fabric.
  • Rinse fabric with plain water to remove all traces of the solution.
  • If stain remains, pour a small amount of glycerin directly onto stain and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  • Carefully blot area with a clean cloth to remove the glycerin.
  • Repeat process until the stain has disappeared. You may need to apply more than one session of glycerin to completely remove the stain.
  • When you are satisfied that stain has been removed, use a damp cloth to rinse the glycerin from the fabric.
  • Air dry the dress naturally and avoid using a clothes dryer.

Follow these steps carefully to save your favorite cocktail dress from that dreaded rouge stain. Good luck and happy partying!
