Materials Needed

  • Cotton cloth patches
  • Mild laundry detergent
  • White vinegar

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Act quickly! Grab some cotton cloth patches, and use them to blot the excess rouge from the coat. Do not rub or scrub at it – this could spread the stain and make it harder to remove.
  2. Mix together a small amount of mild laundry detergent with white vinegar. Test this mixture somewhere inconspicuous first to ensure it doesn't damage or discolour the fabric.
  3. Apply the detergent/vinegar mix to the stained area, using a clean cloth patch. Blot the stain gently but firmly, avoiding rubbing it.
  4. If the stain persists, try adding a few drops of dishwashing liquid to the stain and repeating the blotting process.
  5. Rinse the area with cool water and blot dry to remove any remaining residue.
  6. Check the label of your coat to determine whether it is suitable for machine washing. If so, set the machine on a gentle hand wash cycle and hang up to air-dry.

Preventing Future Rouge Stains

  • Avoid applying makeup whilst wearing your coat.
  • Always make sure to keep makeup containers firmly sealed, to avoid spillages.
  • Consider investing in a makeup bag, which can be carried inside your coat to prevent any accidents.
