When it comes to removing rouge stains from charmeuse fabric, one of the most important things you can do is act quickly. Stains that have had time to sit and set in may be more difficult to remove. Gently blot the area with a damp sponge or cloth to absorb as much of the stain as possible.
If stain persists, mix together a solution of ¼ teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent and 2 cups of warm water. Dip a white cloth into mixture and apply to the affected area. Blot with a dry cloth until all the moisture is removed. For heavier stains, use a soft toothbrush to lightly scrub the area.
Another method is to make a paste of baking soda and only a few drops of water and apply it to rouge stained area. Allow the paste to sit on the fabric for 15 minutes before rinsing off the area with cool water. Once again, be sure to blot the area with a dry cloth to avoid excess moisture.
A commercial stain remover containing an enzyme cleaner and detergent may also work well on rouge stains. Follow directions on package, which will generally require pre-soaking the fabric before laundering. Let the fabric dry completely before wearing.
Stains on delicate fabrics can be tricky to remove without causing damage. If none of the above methods have been successful, contact a professional dry cleaner who has experience working with charmeuse fabric.
