Supplies You'll Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Oxygen bleach
  • Soft cloths
  • Iron

Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

As soon as you get home, pre-treat your button-down shirt with a laundry detergent that has an enzyme-based base. This will help to break down the stain before you even take it to the washing machine. You can also add a little white vinegar to help spot-treat the stain.

Step 2: Washing the Shirt

Once you’ve pre-treated the shirt, run it through washing machine on hottest setting possible. Do NOT use chlorine bleach, as this may make the stain worse. Instead, opt for an oxygen-based bleach, such as hydrogen peroxide or color-safe OxyClean.

Step 3: Ironing the Shirt

After washing, take the shirt out of the washer and place it on an ironing board. Using an iron set to the hottest setting that won’t damage the fabric, press down firmly on the stain for several seconds with a soft cloth between the iron and the fabric. This should further help to remove the stubborn Rouge stain.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully remove Rouge stains from your favorite button-down shirt. Just remember to always be careful when pre-treating and laundering fabrics, and never use chlorine bleach when working on colored fabrics.
