Step 1: Prepare Barrette

Before cleaning the barrette, it needs to be prepared. Remove any attachments such as bows or flowers and wipe off any dirt or dust particles with a wet cloth. If barrette is made of a metal material, be sure it is not painted or plated, or else you may end up damaging the material.

Step 2: Soak the Barrette

Create a mixture of two parts water, one part vinegar, and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Submerge the barrette in the mixture and let it soak for 15-20 minutes. This will help to loosen the rouge stain and allow easier removal.

Step 3: Scrub the Barrette

Once the barrette has soaked, take a soft scrub brush, such as a nail brush, and gently scrub the rouge stain. Use only light pressure so as not to damage the barrette material. Do this until the stain is removed. If the stain appears to remain, repeat the soaking process and brush again.

Step 4: Dry and Finish

Once the rouge stain has been removed, rinse barrette in warm water and pat dry with a soft cloth. Allow to air dry completely before using or putting away.
