berry No one likes to see a nasty stain on their beautiful area rugs. But how can you remove rouge stains without damaging your rug? Cleaning up rugs with rouge stains is easier than you think. Follow these simple steps to remove the rouge stains from your area rugs quickly and easily.

Step 1: Blot the Stain

The first step to removing the rouge stain from your rug is to blot it up as much as possible. Place a clean, white cloth over the stain and use firm pressure to absorb the excess rouge. You may need to repeat this a few times before cloth no longer absorbs any more of the stain.

Step 2: Make a Cleaning Solution

After you've blotted up as much of the stain as possible, you'll need to make a cleaning solution. Combine ¼ teaspoon of liquid dish detergent with ¼ cup of warm water and mix the two ingredients together until the detergent is completely dissolved.

Step 3: Apply the Solution to the Stain

Using a clean white cloth, apply the cleaning solution to the stain and work it in gently using a circular motion. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for a few minutes so it can begin to break down the rouge.

Step 4: Rinse the Stain with Water

Once the cleaning solution has had a chance to do its job, rinse the area with cold water. Blot the area dry with a clean white cloth and repeat as needed until no more rouge is visible.

Step 5: Let the Rug Air Dry

Allow rug to air dry completely, then check to ensure that stain has been fully removed. If the stain persists, repeat the cleaning process.

Additional Tips

Keep these tips in mind to help prevent rouge stains from appearing on your area rugs in the future:
  • Always blot up spills as soon as possible. Don't rub or scrub the stain, as this may spread it and cause it to set into the fibers.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach to clean rouge stains, as this may damage your rug.
  • Be sure to test any cleaning solution on a hidden area of your rug before applying it to the stain.
