Rouge, a powder-based makeup with a strong tint, can be difficult to remove from alpaca wool. While alpaca's natural properties make it ultra soft and plush, it also retains any stains it is exposed to. If you have rouge on your alpaca fibers and need to get it out, read on for our helpful tips.

The most important part of removing a rouge stain from alpaca is to act quickly – longer a stain is allowed to set, harder it will be to remove. If you’re cleaning a fresh rouge stain, first use a clean, dry cloth to blot away as much of the excess rouge as possible. Try not to rub or spread the stain, as this can set it in even further.
Once you have blotted away any excess rouge, fill a bowl with cold water and add a small amount of gentle laundry detergent. (Make sure the detergent you choose does not contain any harsh chemicals that could damage the alpaca fabric.). Dip your cloth into the soapy solution and gently rub the stained area. If the stain persists, try using a small amount of white vinegar instead of detergent.
Once the stain has been successfully removed, rinse the alpaca with cool water to remove any traces of soap and/or vinegar. Lay the item flat to dry and avoid using an iron, as too much heat can set the stain. If stain is still visible after drying, repeat the above steps until it has been completely removed.
The best way to protect your alpaca items from rouge stains is to take preventive measures. When applying makeup, be sure not to let any of the powder come into contact with the fabric. If you are wearing an alpaca item while applying makeup, wear a protective smock or apron to prevent any rogue particles from landing on the fabric.
