Removing Fresh Rouge Stains

If the rouge stain is still fresh, the best way to tackle it is by blotting area with a damp cloth. Blotting helps lift the rouge from the material without smudging it in further. Once the stain has been lifted, apply detergent to the spot and let sit for a few minutes before washing.

Getting Rid of Dried Rouge Stains

If the rouge stain has dried, you’ll need to do a little bit more work. Begin by pre-treating the stain with an oil-based cleaning solution such as dish soap or laundry detergent. Let the pre-treatment soak into the fabric for several minutes before wiping the area with a damp cloth. After you’ve wiped off the pre-treatment, you’ll need to use a deeper cleaning solution like oxygen bleach or vinegar and water to really break down the stain. Apply deeper cleaner to the stained area and let sit. Then, rinse the fabric and launder as usual.

Using Commercial Cleaners

If you don’t have the time or patience to tackle the rouge stain yourself, there are commercial cleaners available that can do the job for you. Many of these cleaners come in spray cans, which make them easy to use. Simply spray the cleaner onto stained area and let sit for a few minutes before blotting and washing. Be sure to read all instructions before use to ensure that cleaner is safe for the fabric you’re trying to clean.
